Charcoal plays an important environmental role in the steelmaking industry. At the end of the forest biomass production process, for the generation of the raw material needed, it is possible to verify the production of oxygen (O2) and sequestration of carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere.

METALSIDER is a steel plant that uses charcoal as its main raw material. Thus, the company aims at self-sufficiency as well as to meet relevant legal requirements, broadly investing in forestation and reforestation in its property located in the municipalities of Três Marias, São Gonçalo do Abaeté and Curvelo, in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil.
