ISO 9001 QUALITY MANAGEMENT

For METALSIDER, talking about quality is not enough: we need to put it into practice. This purpose led to the implementation of the Quality Management system, as well as to its NBR ISO 9001 certification.

The energy put into the consolidation of programs such as 5S and quality program was vital to the improvement of the organization, cleanness and discipline in all plant sectors, introducing new techniques that better the performance and improve production processes.

Constantly investing in the latest technology for laboratorial analysis of pig iron, in addition to internal training courses, quality audits and environmental audits, METALSIDER works to ensure the reliability of its end products and to meet the organizational standard of excellence, improving talents in order to achieve better results in all company levels.

ISO 14001 ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT

METALSIDER aims to continuously improve its environmental management system and encourage accountability, and that is why being granted the NBR ISO 14001 certification was extremely important. By means of environmental education projects, the company seeks to qualify and raise awareness among employees in regard to environmental issues. Because METALSIDER cares for the Environment, the company makes significant investments in the environmental control of the production process. The following procedures must be brought to the foreground:

• Installation of modern systems to receive and handle raw materials, especially charcoal. When charcoal is unloaded and prepared to feed the blast furnace, exhaustion equipment was implemented to avoid dust;
• System to control, drain and perform the primary treatment of rainwater all throughout the plant;
• Company's own water treatment system. All the water used in the production process is recirculated, and does not generate process effluents;
• Systems to control and reused blast furnace gases;
• Constant maintenance of yards and unpaved access ways. Water trucks are used to avoid dust;
• Implementation of the “Green Belt”, which is composed of trees and plants that surround the industrial park and internal areas. Together the landscaping projects, the "Green Belt" improves weather conditions, integrating the industrial plant into the local environment.

WORK HEALTH AND SAFETY MANAGEMENT (SESMT)

Having its employees’ best interest at heart, METALSIDER focuses on work health and safety, which are absolute priorities for the company. Regular maintenance inspections, constant training courses, regular physicals, assessments and a modern firefighting and control system are some of the actions implemented.

In addition, METALSIDER keeps well signaled facilities and constant investment in equipment upgrading, so as to ensure good infrastructure and safety for its employees.
